George Town Heroes swept 4 out of 10 International President's Appreciation Award

Congratulations to Lion President Oh Aik Kim, Cabinet Secretary Lion Lee Boon Hoe, Region I Chairperson Lion Ong Hong Sing, Organising Chairperson Lion Tan Kheng Liat. These are the 4 heroes that received the Appreciation Award from International President Sid.L.Scruggs III personally on the IP Banquent Dinner held in Equatorial Hotel, Penang on 19 February 2011. The recognition was given based on their truth Lionistic work. The current President and 3 Past Presidents are also very dedicated and hard working lions who has sacrificed a lot of Time, Money & Effort and certainly deserved the IP Appreciation Awards.

14th Chinese New Year Charity Vegetarian Dinner

The 14th CNY Charity dinner held on 20th Feb 2010 (Saturday) at PISA,Penang was a great success. Once again LCGT had completed a major project in which total attendance was more than 2000 diners taking up 209 tables of which 100 tables was allocated to invited homes for the elders and under privileged children throughout Penang State. This is a joint project with Penang State Government of which the proceeds was share between Penang Hardcore Poor Fund and LCGT Old Folks Fund. At the end of the day, total net fund raised was RM65,738.90 and our Board has decided to give RM40,000 to Penang Hardcore Poor Fund and Balance to LCGT Old Folks Fund. Well done, Organising Chairman Lion Steven Ooi and all his committees for a perfect fund raising project in memory of our Late President Lion Anthony Lee who has carried this event in aid of Elders for the past 12 years.

In Memory of Late president Lion Anthony Lee & Supporting his CNY Charity Dinner Project.

Our Late President Lion Anthony Lee Kin On passed away peacefully on Dec 9, 2009. He has just celebrated his 50th Birthday on December 4, 1959. To all of us "He is not gone, He is just away. With a cheery smile and the wave of hand, He has wandered into an unknown land."





All our club members missed him alot especially with his witty remarks and unlimited energy. His passion for Lionism has never waver since he joined our club 12 years ago. On January 10, 2010 during the Club 46th Charter Anniversary, International Director, Hajjah Ellis Suriyati read a tribute and presented a President Award and pin posthumously to his wife, Ms Serena.


Our Club 1st Vice President Lion Oh Aik Kim took over the Club President with effect from January 2010. President Oh has great respect for Late President Anthony and he will continue the good job and outstanding projects as identified by the Late President.


One of the biggest dream for Late President Anthony was to continue the Chinese New Year Charity Dinner for Old Folks homes which he has been doing for the past 12 consecutive years.


For the 2010, the Penang State Government together with our Club are co organising the event which will be held at the following date and venue:-

The Net Proceed from the above project will be distibuted equally between Penang Hardcore Poor Fund and LCGT's Old Folks Fund.

We hope more members and their families can attend this special occasion which coincided with the "Yee Shang's day". We have also line up special program with invited singers and performance during the dinner.

14TH CHARITY GOLFATHON 2009

For the 14th consecutive years, Lions Club of George Town will be organising this Charity Golfathon to benefit various charitable organisations. For the coming event, the Golfathon will be held on 22nd Aug 2009 (Sat) at BJCC, Penang.

The proceeds will be donated to the following Charitable Org:- Charis Hospice Penang, Pertubuhan Rumah Kebajikan Seri Cahaya, Penang and Lions Club Project Community Fund.

The Charity Banquet Dinner in Aid of Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre

These pictures tell a thousand word. A fantastic event with support of all lion members that make this event the most memorable one. Those who miss the Banquet Dinner will surely regret as everyone had a nice dinner, fantastic show, pretty girls every where and most important of all we have raised more than we ever dream.. a net surplus of more than RM310,000 GOES TO LIONS KIDNEY DIALYSIS CENTRE.

Another fabulous good news is that immediately after the dinner, one company donate 10 machines amounted to RM420,000 and the proceeds was banked into our account on 27 November 2008. Well done, Lion Lee Kean Teong for making the effort to secure this machine donor. We shall making the Press Announcement at a later date.

Our funding for Dialysis centre are now been met and we have to thank our ever hard working Committee Chairman, Lion Peter Chung for making this centre a Dream come truth for our Club and all lion members. We target to have the opening of the Centre somewhere mid 2009.

Miss Queen Int'l 2008

CHARITY BANQUET DINNER 2008

Dear All members,

This year our Club have embarked on an ambitious project i.e Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre. Our aim is to have the centre open during the celebration of our club 45^th Anniversary i.e on 10^th January 2009. Therefore, we have barely 117 days or 3.9 months to the dateline.

Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre

We have started this fund raising program 3 years ago to set up a Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre in Penang. Our target is to raise RM800,000. This project will be undertaken in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKFM) Once the centre is set up, NKFM will provide the expertise to operate it. We have on 26^th July 2008 signed a MOU with NKFM. Currently NKFM operates 20 dialysis centres around Malaysia.

Fund Raising Activities

Todate we have together with region lions clubs carried out the following projects to raise the needed fund for the centre:-

(i) During the year, NKF with the help of Lions Club of PJ Metro have raised RM102,852.67 from a Charity Dinner during the Miss Queen 2008 Selangor Final.

(ii) LC Georgetown Perdana have organized the “Gift of Love” Mooncakes in which the proceeds from the sale approximately RM45K will be donated to the Centre.

(iii) Our club have organised the Miss Queen 2006 & 2007 and have raised RM53K from the National Final.

(iv) Our recent Golfathon 2008 have raised approximately RM30K for the Centre.

Total fund raised todate for the Centre about RM230K which should be enough to kick start the centre. Based on feedback from members and donors, we have 11 machines in hand @ RM42K totaling RM462K. Therefore, we are still short of RM108K to make up the RM800K for the centre.

Charity Banquet Dinner cum Miss Queen International 2008

Our club will be organising the Charity Banquet Dinner cum Miss Queen International 2008 - National Final with the hope of raising sufficient fund for the centre. The event will be held as follows:-

Date : 16 November 2008 (Sunday)

Venue : Grand Ballroom, Berjaya Georgetown Hotel, Penang

(i) RM250 per person (RM2,500 per table)

(ii) RM200 per person (RM2,000 per table)

(iii) RM150 per person (RM1,500 per table)

Platinum Donor (Only limited to 50 donors on a first come basis)

Each Platinum Donor of RM2,000 will be entitled to the following:-

(i) 2 VIPs ticket to the Charity Dinner

(ii) One Name will be engraved in the wall plaque as Platinum donors to be displayed permanently in the Proposed Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre.

Our Club have 86 members, the largest Lions Club in this Region. Therefore, we need each and every member to at least find one or two Platinum Donor especially Corporate Org, Individual, friends who are willing to do Charity. Spread the word and I am sure there are many generous people who are waiting for the right moment to do the good deed.

Recent Budget 2009 have also encouraged the Organisation to do more charity project through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with increased in the Approved Donation limit from 7% to 10%. That mean, there are more fund being allocated for Donation by the Organisation. Please help to convey our message to them. Tax exemption receipt can be arranged through NKFM.

LCGT 13th CHARITY GOLFATHON

For the 13th consecutive years, our club have organised this charity golfathon in aid of various charity organisation.

The proceeds for this year will be donated to:-

(1) LIONS KIDNEY DIALYSIS CENTRE, a project undertaken by LCGT working together with National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) to set up 11 machines Kidney Dialysis Centre to help at least 60 patients with renal kidney failure.

(2) LCGT Community Service Project Fund. This fund is to cater for other community service projects with the aim of helping the poor & less fortunate.

Dear members,

DG Inauguration & Joint Installation will be held at the following date & venue:-

Date : 12 July 2008 (Sat)
Time : 1.30pm - 4.30pm
Venue : Dewan Budaya, USM
Attire : Club Jacket (Formal)
Cost : RM50 per pax (Light tea will be served after the function)

For member information, our club will not join in the Joint BOD Installation as we will be organising our own Installation on 26th July 2008 at Cititel Hotel at 6.00pm.
